John first became interested in music as a 4th grader playing the recorder in elementary school out on Long Island. He then turned his interest to playing woodwinds in the junior and high school bands. He studied music film composition and jazz voice at Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated with a bachelor's of music.

After graduating college he played saxophone and sang with a touring with a number of bands.  Subsequently returning to school where he received his masters degree from New York University and began performing popular cover tunes as well as his contemporary Christian original songs in churches, clubs, cafes and colleges throughout the northeast.

Russo is a New York city-based singer/songwriter and producer who delivers an engaging, energetic and uplifting performance. Over his lengthy career he has worked and shared the stage with many talented musicians, producers & songwriters. Namely John Sebastien, the legendary Pete Seeger, Tsiddi Leloka along with the cast of the Lion King, Academy Award winning composer Leonard Rosenman and Grammy award winning producer the late Arif Mardin.
He performs as a duo or trio and is available to tour throughout the US.

Since 1989 he has been recording and producing some of New York's emerging artists at Musicreations NYC his upper west side recording studio. John's music expresses the joy and energy of life while at the same time acknowledging that everyone faces difficulties and challenges. He has two CD's out to date "Two Weeks From Tuesday" and "Come On With Me" which have received national and Canadian airplay.
